{"id":586,"date":"2014-12-05T10:45:40","date_gmt":"2014-12-05T09:45:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.laysalvatorians.org\/update\/?p=586"},"modified":"2014-12-05T10:45:40","modified_gmt":"2014-12-05T09:45:40","slug":"celebrating-the-year-of-the-salvatorian-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.laysalvatorians.org\/update\/2014\/12\/05\/celebrating-the-year-of-the-salvatorian-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating the &#8220;YEAR OF THE SALVATORIAN MISSION&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.laysalvatorians.org\/update\/wp-content\/uploads\/Image1.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-588 size-full\" style=\"margin-bottom: 10px; margin-right: 10px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.laysalvatorians.org\/update\/wp-content\/uploads\/Image1.jpg\" alt=\"Image1\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The International Community of the Divine Savior (ICDS), as well both <span id=\"46cbde6e-f6f8-4baa-8468-750b94d9790e\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"3abf8bdf-5975-4df4-a973-c092a71b3b2b\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">Generalates<\/span><\/span>, the Society (SocDS) and the Congregation (<span id=\"48b4e299-c05d-4142-ae66-d58d50ba4dbd\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"1dd22657-17fa-4bd3-a985-ea92bc35d505\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">ConDS<\/span><\/span>), declared 2015 the <em>YEAR OF THE <\/em>SALVATORIAN MISSION, celebrating the first Salvatorian Mission of the SDS to Assam, India 125 years ago. At the same time, Pope Francis called the year 2015 the <em>YEAR OF THE CONSECRATED LIFE<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Here some remarks for these two special celebrations<span id=\"3ec1d44c-a1c0-405e-bdee-7a60d7ac5de9\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"5a258698-bdad-45b0-ba63-27b490774b4f\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">:<\/span><\/span><a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Next year we <span id=\"e77e474d-c27b-4f00-844c-6ee101233ac7\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"9165c32f-08c0-4fc6-ba1f-8f4cb41ddfab\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">celebrate<\/span><\/span> the 125<sup><span id=\"5a68680e-dfa8-4683-b64b-27aca6ad35fa\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"2e0b2728-56b9-488f-8f6c-43199c05d28e\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">th<\/span><\/span><\/sup> <span id=\"f7089d14-c6ea-45ac-b7c0-2a78d30c4407\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"209559b1-e2a5-4d57-81c8-138c37a6a636\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">anniversary<\/span><\/span> of the sending of the first <span id=\"6b0e97ce-39da-4a1a-9bd5-211ca8797b79\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"0935d9d8-c970-4fb4-95b9-ae529b6ca0a8\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">Salvatorian<\/span><\/span> missionaries to Assam as well as the 125<sup><span id=\"1cd944bd-01fb-4fea-bd21-b00358dfba74\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"0134171b-52b3-41c3-b047-c919558127e3\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">th<\/span><\/span><\/sup> <span id=\"9c9a14a9-1e7a-4f08-a5f0-7df522d3d536\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"ccddcd1d-dfad-4a33-b33b-f279f61307ac\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">anniversary<\/span><\/span> of the death of Fr. Otto Hopfenm\u00fcller and the 25<sup><span id=\"a4f1b22c-fd5d-4081-b275-d7739ec7793e\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"a3855eb2-32e6-462a-8e02-55541fbe1708\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">th<\/span><\/span><\/sup> <span id=\"e8f8018d-321c-46ff-993e-fe86dde26f18\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"ce1b0e5e-6ad6-4b1d-8838-2e117ced7d67\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">anniversary<\/span><\/span> of the resumption of the Salvatorian mission in Assam. These events have led us to proclaim 2015 as the <strong><span id=\"80db9956-b7ab-43d8-a138-89f22c3b8360\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"625754e6-0560-445d-92aa-6faf83db0a75\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">Salvatorian<\/span><\/span> Missionary Year<\/strong> under the motto \u201c<strong>The Savior&#8217;s Mission is our Passion<\/strong>\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">We wish to invite everyone to participate in this time of grace, which will promote the missionary spirit at the personal, community and congregational level for all the members of the <span id=\"c544df94-bf8b-47e8-869f-98755038c2d3\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"db3a5ab8-4e67-40a0-b149-83bccbbf2d79\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">Salvatorian<\/span><\/span> Family. Furthermore, Pope Francis has proposed the celebration of the <strong>Year for Consecrated Life<\/strong> from the first Sunday of Advent 2014 to 2 February 2016. This suggests, therefore, that mission and consecration ought to go hand in hand in the life of every Salvatorian.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Why two invitations at the same time? &#8211; Which one should we give our attention to?<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">We think that the Holy Spirit has given us these two awesome ideas to combine not to choose one over the other:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">We are one Salvatorian Family and we want to: <em>\u201c<\/em><em>Thank the Divine Savior, before anything else, for the history of our mission and the unity of the Salvatorian Family\u201d.<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">We want to evangelize with Salvatorian <span id=\"ae648d0c-d30f-4554-b003-55152636c420\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"e8c92d24-9c35-404f-8616-f0b77877dfa3\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">charism<\/span><\/span> and: <em>\u201cRecall the first Salvatorians who understood the missionary charism of Fr. Jordan\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">We as Lay Salvatorians dedicate our lives to deepen our baptismal commitment to make Jesus Christ known to all the world by all ways and means that He inspires us.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">We want to: <em>\u201d<\/em><em>Revive the missionary fire of our <span id=\"e7ad473f-5ea4-4000-83be-8242d018c134\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"f11d8d4a-be05-4e7d-9ab7-1f13f725c236\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">Salvatorian<\/span><\/span> identity within the Church and in the world at the personal and community level\u201d<\/em>, igniting our lives with Jordan\u00b4s spirituality, full of a missionary vision.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Then we are also committed to SALVATORIAN MISSION and CONSECRATED LIFE, not only the fathers, brothers and sisters, but Lay Salvatorians as the church rediscovered during the second Vatican Council.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">It is only natural that we would focus our mission (local and foreign) and consider also sacred our way of life as lay people, beginning at home, in our family, our first and basic community, the places where we live and work, and in the mission areas, our neighborhood, parish, and our Salvatorian Community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The Sisters of the Congregation (ConDS) and we the Lay Salvatorians (ICDS) are happy to accept the invitation from the Society (SocDS) to celebrate this commemorative year together as a Salvatorian Family and to encourage all, in the places where there are several branches of the Salvatorian Family, to be inspired by common activities for our mission today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">We encourage all Lay Salvatorian Communities to consider these ideas in the initiatives that you will take in 2015 as Salvatorian Laity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Please use the following <a style=\"color: #ccffff;\" href=\"http:\/\/sds.org\/apostleship\/missionary-year-2015\/introductory-letter\">SDS link<\/a> to find documents about the <span id=\"65049d14-1290-4acf-9da8-38ae95ca7b9b\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"866ed2d3-67cf-4de2-97fb-620d2f9ef657\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">Salvatorian<\/span><\/span> Missionary Year 2015, prayers, logo, photos, history book to download, activities, and how to celebrate together.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">In addition, here are some ideas that inspired us for common activities:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">We could celebrate a common Eucharist in each unit on Fr. Jordan\u00b4s birthday &#8221; it&#8217;s a Tuesday in June 2015<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">A communal renewing of our commitment\/vows on December 8th.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Workshops and other events to make known our Salvatorian <span id=\"4138d4a7-9def-4e52-9181-36a9034477ea\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"ed9e08cf-519c-4a13-b27b-801e89a8eb4d\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">charism<\/span><\/span> and spirituality<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Create common days of prayer and reflection<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Develop the (Lay<span id=\"953664d8-0681-461d-b240-f9c38f1c8c64\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"bed2992a-e6f6-42e1-a4ff-3836a72f87a1\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">)<\/span><\/span>Salvatorian network<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Develop an international Salvatorian online diary<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">We could add the following historic dates for Salvatorian Missionary celebration:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">January 17th \u2013 1890, blessing and <span id=\"8bb37db1-89bf-4d52-a338-92b01e5a6023\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"7cf86af5-2eeb-4d8f-8fec-116eb5e12f7b\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">missioning<\/span><\/span> celebration in the Motherhouse.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">February 27th \u2013 1890, arrival in Shillong (on Feb. 21 they had reached Guwahati).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">August 21st \u2013 1890, death of Fr. Otto Hopfenm\u00fcller.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">August 30th \u2013 1890, death of Br. <span id=\"908db436-96d5-49d3-828b-4146dfd292df\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"9ab7968e-dd86-4d65-afc3-07957d2a1ea5\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">Marianus<\/span><\/span> Schumm.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">December 12th &#8211; 1890, Sisters Laurentia Heilmeier, Benedikta <span id=\"46758496-ff78-49ee-8135-3a98da62ecef\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"af87d31a-21d4-41dc-b3b0-1e78bd6c7aa7\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">Ruderich<\/span><\/span> and Scholastika Hopfenm\u00fcller, together with four Salvatorian men, began their boat trip to Assam.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">1915 July expulsion of all SDS missionaries in the wake of World War I.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">1989-1990 return to India, creating the community at Carmelaram-Bangalore.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">2000 October 11 return to Shillong, the first mission.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">2001 July 1 reburial of Fr. Otto next to Shillong cathedral.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">We, the General Committee of the ICDS, would be pleased to hear what each unit plans.
